Keith has a background in environmental policy and risk management. Over a career spanning three decades, he has worked with national governments, the private sector and civil society to tackle the health and environmental problems caused by pesticide use.
With years of experience in the field, he has a deep understanding of smallholder farming systems in the global South and the realities of pesticide use in rural communities. He has worked with partners in Africa, Asia and the Caribbean to collect the evidence needed to develop effective policies to manage pesticides and has delivered projects and programmes that have successfully supported farmers to transition away from Highly Hazardous Pesticides.
He has been involved in pesticide health monitoring in over a dozen countries – he has conducted surveys, developed surveillance systems and monitoring tools to generate robust data on the scale of the problem, pinpoint exposure routes and identify the chemicals involved in poisoning.
Keith initially trained as an environmental scientist and holds a Doctorate in Development Studies, and MA in Environment Development and Policy from the University of Sussex – both of which involved research into pesticide use.
Prior to joining CPSP, Keith was the Director of Pesticide Action Network UK.
