Tell us about your role?
I work in the area of pesticide registration in the Agriculture and Plant Protection Department. This involves delivering workshops at national level, presenting on topics such as ‘safe use of pesticides’. I also assess vulnerability in food safety.
I represent Angola in the Southern African Pesticide Regulators’ Forum (SAPReF). I am part of the executive committee (EXCO) and work in collaboration with other countries to draw up guidelines and policies for reducing pesticide risks.
Why is this work important to you?
I think this work is very important because it allows for greater control of the circulation of pesticides in the countries as well as their safe use in order to avoid harm to human health and the environment. The risk of poisoning vulnerable people such as women, children and other untrained people is avoided or reduced.
This profile has been compiled for International Women’s Day 2025, to celebrate the incredible women worldwide who are helping to prevent deaths from pesticide self-poisoning.
