Tell us about your role?
Deccan Development Society collaborates with women farmers in the Zaheerabad area of Telangana to support organic, pesticide-free food production. Our farmers utilize mixed cropping along with various traditional and modern pest management techniques. As the director, I oversee management and strategic planning for the organization.
Why is this work important to you?
Growing safe food goes beyond healthy eating; it also involves nurturing a healthy ecosystem and, in turn, a healthy planet. It is important for me to eliminate toxic pesticides from our soils and water, as well as to protect the well-being of our farmers and their families. This concern extends to our health as producers and the well-being of our consumers.
This profile has been compiled for International Women’s Day 2025, to celebrate the incredible women worldwide who are helping to prevent deaths from pesticide self-poisoning.
